Baby Shower

A few weeks ago, Selena and Sonja threw me a baby shower at Elyse and Luke's house.  It was the snowy and blustery Sunday just before the big wind and snow storm that wreaked havoc on Interior roads.  About fifteen of us braved the weather (some, including Aunt Francie, required a mimosa upon arrival to bolster their courage) and made it out to Murphy Dome Road for a lovely afternoon of food, drink and merriment.

Debbie Brownlow, Mary Beth Perreault, and Selena Hopkins-Kendall enjoying the ginger ale punch.  Not in frame: the five or six bottles of champagne and white wine that went mostly untouched.  We were such a ladylike and teetotaling bunch!

I forced a self-portrait on my mother.

Sonja planned the baby shower games.  First game: guess the circumference of Genevieve's belly with yarn.  My mom won.  She underestimated.  Everyone else overestimated.  By a lot.  I love you, Mom!

Sonja, lording over her captive audience.

Lori Gorsline, Sara Grocott, and Heidi Atkinson.

Debbie and me.

Awesome designer diaper bag from the folks at SCCA.

Elyse and Henry, just kickin' it.

Nelson, the crochet robot (or "crobot") taking a hot air balloon hostage.  Nelson has a little red heart crocheted on his robot chest.  Beyond cuteness.

Lori made this beautiful quilt.  Her daughter Naomi recommended that we somehow incorporate "Captain Aubrey Lebowski Perreault" in our kid's name, in honor of our appreciation for the Patrick O'Brien series and the Big Lebowski.  I think we very much prefer the boat theme over a bowling theme.

Sophie, rediscovering the joys of popping bubble wrap.

We were playing a game where guests had to select from a list of famous men the name of the man whom I would have chosen to father my baby, if John didn't exist.  Sara is smiling because she just told me that my dream genetic mate is Paul Harvey.  Rick James wasn't on the list, or I'm pretty sure that's whom she would have chosen.

Aunt Francie and my mom.

Luke and Selena.

Conveniently, John arrived just as I was revealing my list of potential alternative paternity choices.

Pat Wagner, me, and Mr. Warthog.  Pat knitted the warthog - it's amazing!

Aunt Frida and John.  I love it that you can totally see in their bone structure that they're related.  I hope Baby Perreault inherits their cheekbones.  John's holding a caribou stuffed animal and the lovely piece of art that Heidi made just for us.  Heidi's artwork will join Suli's in the nursery.

Post-shower, John and I came home to put stuff away in the nursery.  Earlier that day, he had unearthed some of his ancient childhood belongings, including a lion puppet that Mary Beth had knitted for him when he was a baby.  So John put on a puppet show for me with the lion and a glove puppet that Frida gave us.  It was brilliant.  But we're going to need some more rehearsals before we show the baby.

Yes, indeed.
